In this little blog, we will help you make the right decision when choosing the perfect pillow, explain what makes our pillows special and where they come from.
How to choose the right meditation pillow?
The classic zafu lifts the hips and tilts the pelvis forward, aligning the spine and allowing for a straight posture. It is perfect for prolonged sitting as it reduces pressure on the lower back, knees and ankles.
This cushion is ideal for different meditation postures, such as the lotus seat, the Burmese seat or the kneeling seiza position. The Zafu is often considered a beginner’s pillow because it provides the necessary support to sit comfortably. It is particularly helpful for people with limited hip mobility, stiff joints or back pain.
In addition to the beauty of this pillow, it is also one of my personal favorites. It was my first pillow when I started yoga, and I found it very convenient. It helped me improve comfort and posture during meditation.
The 4 variants of the round meditation cushion
The round meditation cushion is available in 4 different sizes: 10 cm, 15 cm, 20 cm and 30 cm. We have made sure that everyone can find comfort in one of the adapted sizes.
The meditation cushion, similar to the zafu, meets the needs of an average person. It is especially suitable for people with a little more yoga experience who can get into the lotus position without much difficulty. Even at 10cm tall, sitting on the round cushion during longer sessions can help relax and relieve pressure on your knees and ankles.
Mini Meditation Cushion 10 cm:
- Best for flexible individuals who can sit comfortably cross-legged.
- Beneficial for those who already have good mobility in the hips and lower back, with minimal elevation.
- Keep in mind that it doesn’t provide enough elevation if you have tight hips, knee problems, or back pain.
- Best for slightly less flexible individuals who need more height for comfort.
- Supports those who need a slight elevation of the hips to get a better posture but still feel like they’re sitting on the floor.
- Suitable for people who sit cross-legged but may need extra support.
High Meditation Cushion 20 cm:
- Best for those with tight hips and limited mobility or for beginners.
- Advantages: Due to the greater height, the hips are lifted above the knees. This reduces the strain on the hips, knees and lower back.
- Provides more support and makes it easier to maintain an upright posture, even if you have joint or flexibility problems.
- Best for those with very tight hips, knee pain, or longer legs.
- Advantageous for those who want to sit at a higher height, as it is easier to find a comfortable position without discomfort.
- Keep in mind that it may be too high for very flexible people.
In summary, the preferred height depends on how flexible you are, how your body is built, and what sitting posture you prefer. The 10-15 cm heights are more suitable for flexible individuals, while the 20-30 cm heights are ideal for those with tight hips or knee problems.
